I am a bad book blogger

..although in my defense my reading has been strange of late.  I've read some fun, quick, but ultimately forgettable books and struggled with and abandoned a few others.

I've put The Historian on the back burner.  I still think I will enjoy it and get engrossed, but I'm not in the right frame of mind to make the effort.  I think it's worthy of the effort, not all agree however.  I kep hearing that it's a novel in need of an editor.  I actually like long novels, and am happy to spend as much time as possible in a well written universe.

I'm still loving, but have fallen behind in my Dave Eggers and McSweeney's literary pursuits.  I'm hoping to finish MSQ13 and 16 this week and have 17 on order (not sure why I haven't picked up 14 and 15 but will get on that soon).

I have three months of comic titles to catch up on.  Sadly, though I gave it a valiant effort in honor of my childhood memories, The Legion of Super Heroes will be getting the ax form my sub.  As my link shows, nothing can compare to the thrilling days of yesteryear...or at least my hazy memories of same.  On the other hand, The Authority has turned around and become pretty great again.  Of all the titles I get though, Fables is one of the most compelling and thought provoking titles.  The writers have taken the old canard of retelling fairy tales and created an alternate universe that uncannily mirrors our own and addresses issues relevent to our own society.

Bill Willingham is pretty much my favorite writer in the world of comic books today.  Oh and I also read a wonderful graphic novel this past week end,

The Rabbi's Cat.  It was sweet and beautiful and I am still digesting it.NPR reviews it here and provides a link to the author's (Joann Safar) homepage.  Rabbiscat1 Even if you are not a fan of the graphic novel, read this, it's beautiful and mocing and if nothing else gives a unique glimpse of Jewish life in 1930's Algiers and France.
